From stories of childhood including 4-H leaders, coaches, and teachers throughout Here We Grow, Marcia Barnes remarks on the people who helped her development. Her personal and professional mentors affirmed her love for the work. Many experiences with business partners and coworkers may be negative but learning from these events helps leaders grow.
Servant leaders create a foundation for culture to thrive. This requires partnerships inside your organization and beyond. When business fails to build culture-the heart part of your business-it is a detriment to growth.
“Bringing your team to the table to learn about and have a voice in how giving will be executed in your business is a really powerful thing,” she says. Whether you engage your team with service days or reinforce culture through charitable giving, growth occurs when everyone works together.
In the final section of the book, she considers organizations like Habitat for Humanity and her personal involvement with Youth with a Mission Homes of Hope. Whatever phase of leadership you are currently in, Marcia believes connecting with growth partners is invaluable.
